Harry Potter
Jul. 16th, 2005 09:28 pmIt appears that the Internet has stopped today. (Or at least live-journal). Is everybody in the world busy reading the new Harry Potter book?
Am I the only one that read the first book, found it a bad mix of Victorian children books and '70s manga, and couldn't find the will to carry on reading the other 5? (And the number of pages is not an issue for me. I read the Lord of the Rings in two nights).
Then I found the tube full of grown up reading them and I felt sorry they couldn't find a better way to keep in touch with their inner child (comics are mine).
Then i discovered HP porn and started to get uneasy. I am a slasher, I like an healthy dose of sex in my fanfic, and I see toys, BDSM and assorted kinks as plus points. (I am shallow, I know) BUT most of the characters are a tad too young to have ship wars taking place about them.
Then F_W opened the doors of the bedlam that is the HP fandom to me, and I started hoping that JK Rowlings would stop having babies and finished the 7 books, so the madness could start to calm down.
But today The Half Blood Prince is out, the internet is still while people read actual books, awaiting for the fanfic that surely will start flooding soon.
In the meantime, I'll carry on reading From Hell. I watched the film last night, and while it's very different, it maintain the atmosphere and both Johnny Depp and Ian Holm offers brilliant performances.
