Of all my colleagues I am the one living the furthest from my workplace. It's an half an hour drive, nothing I can't handle normally, but today it snows. Heavily.
The shift manager called me this morning to ask me if I was going to go to work. I told her that if I could avoid it I would rather stay home. She told me that already one of my colleagues (the slutty one who had already done it time and time again) hadn't turned up and wasn't answering her phone, but that she was gonna see if she could avoid me driving.
She calls me back and she tells me that the only person that could replace me is sick so could I come? I paled at the idea of driving in a foot of snow, with more snow coming down, but I said yes.
Then an idea strucks me: I call one of my colleagues and ask her if she can, as a favour to me, pull a double shift. Luckily she says yes and now I am home safe.
The colleague who's replacing me just called: apparently the colleague who didn't turn up had already told her gandmother that this sunday she was going to the casino so we now know that she didn't have any intention of turning up.
Also: apparently another one of my colleagues was given 2 sundays in a row free because she isn't very good and he prefers to give more shifts to me. Don't get me wrong... I like extra shifts but we are supposed to take turns in having sunday free...
Let's only hope that a) they give me a permanent contract for my patience, availability and willingness to work (and the fact that I am quite good at my job). b) the new manager is gonna see through this bullshit..
