I went to see King Kong last night. These are my thoughts.
I am putting them behind a cut, but I do not think there's to be afraid of spoilers...

Peter Jackson knows his job very well, and he works with a team that understand and share his vision and delivers fantastic visuals.

He is also very good at getting the actors involved in the film. I particularly loved Naomi Watts, but as in LotR, every actor, even if they have only a line, counts and delivers. Jack Black is a good example: in this film he shows real potential, above that shown in his previous, less engaging roles.

Yes, less engaging and here we do come to what I do think it is the most interesting thing that Jackson has done to this film. He has taken a well known, maybe too well know story, and added layers to it. So many that I already know I will buy the DVD and watch it again and again, because there are things I missed.
The first viewing is for the adventure,
the second is for Andy Serkis (can you get an Oscar for playing a Computer animated gorilla?),
the third is for Naomi Watts,
the fourth is for Hearth of Darkness and the Venture crew,
the fifth is for Adrien Brody and the image of the writer working in the cage
the sixth is for the savages
the seventh is for Preston, Jimmy and what we teach our young
the eight is for Jack Black and his mystery for 25c
the ninth for the slash...

and so on and on and on. So, in short, Peter Jackson delivers once again. Go and watch this film.

But...

Do not take your children with you. Their nightmares will keep you awake and they will not get it.
Instead, buy the DVD and keep it to show them when the time comes when they start asking questions and you do not know all the answers anymore.
