Paper dreams
Nov. 29th, 2011 03:53 pmI have rediscovered the pleasure of books. Not that of reading, because I read constantly, but mostly read fanfic or news magazines online.
I have always been a ferocious reader, since my cousing gave me Little Women for my 6th Birthday. I read and I read and I read: crime, fantasy, the classics, I even read the whole Bible. Our family library included more than a thousand books.
Then the digital era arrived and I discovered fanfiction. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, and I have still an umbilical cord linking me to my computer and I don't plan on letting go, but I want to exercise my brain more.
That's one of the reasons why I rediscovered print. There's no escape from print, you read, your brain receive the right amount of stimuli (and not the bombardment of useless information we receive daily) and it slwos down your brain, getting it ready to... live. Or to sleep.
I recently bought 3 books and I am enjoying them immensly. They take the strain off my eyes, smell magnificently and I can read them un der the covers of my bed. One is on marian iconology and the other two are the last two books of the Harry Potter series, the ones I was missing.
I love books and that's why tonight at 9 I'll slip into bed for an hour of Harry before sleep.
