Summer

I had forgotten how unbearable summers are in Italy. In the Uk, summer lasts an entire week (and surely not this one because it's Wimbledon and it would not be Wimbledon without rain)and even then you do not get up already sweaty.

Here it's 8 o'clock in the morning and I am already bathed in my body fluids. (This did come out quite disgusting, but i do feel quite disgusting so...).

I am a cold weather chick. I love cold winter days, with the sun shining but warming only your soul, brisk winds clearing your thoughts, soothing rain and the stillness of snow.

My body does not react well to high temperatures. I have a very fair skin and I get sunburn even if I wear sunblock and sit in the shadow. Not only, but I start to itch all over, because of the sweat and the sun. Also, my hands and feet start to swell and my blood pressure goes down.

But my plants seem to like it, so I'll try to enjoy it in my nice smelling herbs. Let's see what the good things of summer are:

- people go on holiday, so you are left with the town to yourself.
- less queues in offices.
- it's the ideal time to go on a diet: less appetite, lots of fruit.
- Plenty of things to do outside in the evening for little or nothing. (Thursday! Patti Smith! I am going!)
- It's the ideal time to sit in the shadow with a good book (just read Angels and Demons, just started the Da Vinci Code) and some lemonade.
- Picnics in the shade, with my father that helps me climb trees, and then call me Pippi when I ask him to help me climb down.
- Air conditioned shopping centers. (That's where I am off now...)

How somebody very wise said once: Always look on the bright shade of life.
(Goes off whistling)
