First of all an update on the deranged colleague: I have full support of management. Sadly she's the main reason why my boss doesn't take on permanent staff anymore, so even if they are desperate to sack her (not just for what happened on saturday) they can't, but I have been told I am free to shout back. I am just going to be professional with her. I don't need her drama.
Today I went to see my doctor for my monthly check up.All in all, aside from a bit of slowness that leads to a caffeine addiction, my medications are working fine, so no change there.
We spoke about counseling and we decided to wait. To be honest, I am not sure what classic therapy can offer me. I tried it twice: the first time I was liberally doused with Prozac and told I needed to work on the incestuous relationship with my father, the second time I spent 3 years answering the question: "What are you feeling now?" " A strong desire to throttle my therapist."
I would like some CBT, or assertiveness training, but he's not sure it's available through the public system so we are just going to wait. Personally I am happy with the work we are doing.
He said an interesting thing: that I talk very little about my history.
So I ask: do I really talk so little about where I am coming from ? How much do you know ? Would you like to know more ?

Talking
Date: 2008-11-17 08:39 pm (UTC)"What are you feeling" is a sign to me that it's time to find a different therapist. While it *can* be a useful question, more often it seems to be "there isn't anything that I know to do that can help you, so here, let me lead you around for a bit while you stumble over it."
almost forgot...
Date: 2008-11-17 08:41 pm (UTC)By all means, do not shout back at her. If anything, whisper. Feigning deafness and laryngitis may also be useful, put any required communication into writing.
And if they want to sack her, then they should. There are plenty ofpeople who are job-seeking.

Date: 2008-11-18 05:50 am (UTC)In Italy there are very strict laws about sacking people once you take them on permanently. For example you have to prove incompetence beyond any reasonable doubt. This has lead more and more employers to use Temp staff. Successive government in recent years have tried to address the problem, only to be stonewalled by Unions. Our constitution states that we are a Republic founded on work, but they never mention "on good work"
