A victory for the little man
May. 30th, 2011 08:23 pmToday at work it was busy. It was the last Sunday of the football season and it seems that Madam Luck decided to reward the faithfull. We ended up paying nearly 22,000 euros.
The problem when handling such big amounts of money is that mistakes can easily happen.
When I arrived I got set up at my till, but we were all moving around so people kept using my till to make payments. The first thing that I thought it was: Shit this is going to get messy. I trust my colleagues... but if there was money missing it was going to come out of my pockets.
And there was money missing. 80 euros. (For those unfamiliar with euros, my monthly salary is 820 euros, so it's quite the big money for me). My boss got pissed off and started shouting. He's a good man and afterwards he always apologise, but he has quite the temper so before the apologies you have to get through the shouting.
I got pissy as well and said that everybody had been in my till, so I refused to pay for a mistake that everybody could have done.
Half an hour later one of the customers did come back to say that we had overpaid him and to give back the money.
Guess who had made the mistake? My boss.
